What is the Redemption Period and how to restore a domain Print

  • 0

Overview

The Redemption Period is a special stage after a domain expires. It is managed by the domain registry, not the hosting provider. During Redemption, the domain is temporarily removed from public availability but can still be recovered for an additional fee.

When does a domain enter Redemption?

  • Most domains enter Redemption 30 days after expiration.
  • The exact timing depends on the TLD (for example, .com, .net, .org follow ICANN rules).

What happens during Redemption?

  • The domain is placed on hold by the registry.
  • The website and email services usually stop working.
  • The domain cannot be transferred or modified.
  • The owner has the exclusive right to restore it.

Why is Redemption more expensive?

Registries charge a fixed restoration fee, which is added to the normal renewal cost. This is an industry-wide rule and not set by VexoWeb.

How to restore a domain from Redemption

  1. Log in to billing.vexoweb.com.
  2. Open Domains.
  3. Select the expired domain (status may show Redemption or Expired).
  4. Click Restore Domain (or open a ticket if the button is not displayed).
  5. Pay the restoration invoice (renewal + Redemption fee).

How long does restoration take?

  • Most restorations are completed within a few hours.
  • Some registries may take 24–48 hours to process.

What if the domain leaves Redemption?

If not restored in time, the domain enters the Pending Delete state and cannot be recovered. After deletion, it becomes publicly available.
