Why my domain shows my personal data in WHOIS Print

  • 0

Overview

When checking your domain in a WHOIS lookup tool, you may notice that your personal information (name, address, email, phone) is visible. This article explains why this happens and provides guidance on how to hide it.

Reason 1 – WHOIS Privacy is not enabled.

If you haven’t activated ID Protection, your details will appear in public WHOIS databases.

Solution: Enable WHOIS Privacy from your domain management page.

Reason 2 – Your TLD does not support privacy.

Some domain extensions do not allow WHOIS privacy by law. Examples include:

  • .US
  • .UK (special rules)
  • .AU (specific requirements)

Solution: Unfortunately, privacy cannot be enabled for these TLDs.

Reason 3 – GDPR masking only applies to EU individuals

For some TLDs, WHOIS data is partially masked only if the Registrant is from the EU.

Reason 4 – Privacy was recently disabled.

If you turned off privacy, WHOIS updates may take a few minutes to refresh.

Reason 5 – Transfer in progress

Some registrars require WHOIS privacy to be OFF during transfers.

How to check if privacy is active

  1. Log in to billing.vexoweb.com.
  2. Open Domains → select your domain.
  3. Look for ID Protection or WHOIS Privacy.

How to hide your data

  • Enable WHOIS Privacy (if supported).
  • Use a company address instead of personal details.
  • Ensure your contact email is secure and valid.
