Why I cannot register certain TLDs Print

  • 0

Overview

Some domain extensions (TLDs) have special rules, restrictions, or local requirements. If you cannot register a certain TLD, it is usually because the registry enforces specific eligibility conditions.

1. Residency or citizenship requirements

Some TLDs require you to live in a specific country.

Examples:

  • .EU — Europe residents only
  • .CA — Canadian presence required
  • .US — U.S. Nexus requirement

2. Local business or organization requirements

Some TLDs require an officially registered business in the region.

  • .FR – French legal entity or individual with EU address
  • .JOBS – Registered HR-related business

3. Documentation required

Certain TLDs require identity verification:

  • Passport
  • ID card
  • Company registration certificate

4. Restricted or sponsored TLDs

Some TLDs are reserved for specific industries:

  • .EDU – accredited educational institutions only
  • .GOV – U.S. government agencies
  • .MIL – U.S. military

5. Premium names or special restrictions

Some domains are flagged as premium by the registry and cannot be registered at normal prices.

6. TLD not supported by VexoWeb

Not all extensions are available in the system. If a TLD is missing, it may not yet be integrated.

7. Invalid domain format

A domain may fail if it contains disallowed characters, starts/ends incorrectly, or is too short/long.
