How to scan your hosting account for malware Print

Overview

Malware can slow down your website, redirect visitors, or get your domain blacklisted. DirectAdmin includes a built-in malware scanner powered by ClamAV.

Step 1 — Open the Virus Scanner

1. Log in to DirectAdmin
2. Go to Advanced Features → Virus Scanner

Step 2 — Choose what to scan

Select one or more options:

• Scan the public_html folder (website files)
• Scan email folders
• Scan system files

Step 3 — Run the scan

Click Scan Now. The scanner will check for:

• Injected malicious PHP files
• Backdoors
• Spam scripts
• Trojan uploads
• Suspicious file changes

Step 4 — Remove or clean infected files

If malware is found:

• Delete the infected file, only if you recognize it
• If unsure, open a support ticket
• Reset all admin passwords

Tips

• Keep plugins and themes updated
• Delete unused CMS installations
• Use strong passwords
