How to troubleshoot slow WordPress websites Print

  • 0

Overview

A slow WordPress website can be caused by heavy plugins, poor caching, large images, or insufficient resources. Follow the steps below to optimize performance on VexoWeb Hosting.

1. Enable LiteSpeed Cache

  1. Install the LiteSpeed Cache plugin
  2. Go to LiteSpeed Cache → Cache
  3. Enable all caching options
  4. Enable QUIC.cloud CDN (optional but recommended)

2. Update PHP version

Use the latest stable version for best performance:

  • DirectAdmin → Select PHP Version
  • Choose PHP 8.2 or higher

3. Optimize large images

Compress your images to speed up loading time:

  • Use WebP format
  • Use plugins like ShortPixel or Imagify

4. Remove heavy or unused plugins

  • Disable security plugins that duplicate server features
  • Avoid page builders on low-resource websites
  • Disable WooCommerce addons you don’t use

5. Optimize database

  • Use LiteSpeed Cache → Database optimization
  • Remove spam comments
  • Delete old revisions

6. Check resource limits

DirectAdmin → Resource Usage will show:

  • CPU overuse
  • Memory faults
  • I/O limits

7. Enable server-level caching

If your site is static (no WooCommerce):

  • Enable LSCache
  • Avoid other cache plugins (conflicts!)

8. Check external scripts

  • Google Fonts
  • Tracking scripts
  • Facebook Pixel
  • Chat widgets

These add delays. Remove unnecessary ones.
